A Weekend With: The Victorians
After coming top in our Poll for the most loved era for literature we decided to celebrate the Victorians in with some of our favourite picks to accompany you on your weekend.
First up is the most famous and much loved author, Charles Dickens. His collection of books still entertain us today but now we can enjoy Dickens on the big screen and become transported into his stories. Little Dorritis the BBC’s most recent production adapted from the authors novels and it doesn’t disappoint. With fantastic acting by Claire Foy who takes the role
of Little Dorrit and an all-star cast including Alun Armstrong, Amanda Redman and Tom Courtney the production promises complete entertainment.
Wives and Daughters is one of Elizabeth Gaskell’s classic novels. Follow Molly as she grows up to see her father remarry to the amusing and equally annoying Hyacinth, and her love for Roger Hamley grows while her new step sister captures his heart. A great novel full of wit and drama. Perfect for a weekend of uninterrupted reading.

The real story of the Victorians is one as interesting as any novel so enjoy with this beautifully illustrated book full of pictures, paintings and even cartoons from the day to help tell the tale of this fascinating period of British history.
Enjoy your weekend with the Victorians and share your favourite picks with us.
